Dear Friends and Patrons of Adam’s,
Things are moving along steadily at the new space. I know that many
of you are skeptical due to the exterior condition of the Spa Building. It
is horrific, I agree, however the restoration of our suite is coming along
nicely. The interior walls of the kitchen are framed. The plumbing
and electric in the kitchen are complete and the hood system is in place. The
new patio will be poured shortly. We have pushed back the projected
opening to December 1st in order to add some cushion. Also, many of
the employees like to take a break during Thanksgiving week and I want every
staff member available in the days following the move. Delaney Utterback,
of KRCC, has created a “moving page” for the website. I
am putting pictures of the renovation in progress on the site. I am
also gathering your email addresses for better communication during the week
we move. I will not bombard you with updates but simply keep you informed
of what days we will be closed.
Most of the feedback I have received has addressed the issue of how the new
space will look. It will look different; however, all of the light
fixtures, tables, table center pieces, artwork, chairs and even the hanging
French doors are going with us. I am struggling with the wallpaper. I
was told there were 32 rolls remaining in a warehouse but after measuring
the new space and returning to order them I was told they were gone. A
mystery. I have not given up yet but may need to look for something
similar. I promise you that Rockey is more disappointed than anyone. He
loves the mice faces in the design of the current wall covering. The
paint colors will be similar too: creams, French blues and taupe. The
wait station, where the servers work, will remain open and the waiting area
will remain very similar as well. There will be a community table too. Some
of you may remember the community table in the original café location
on Manitou Avenue. I really like the concept which is popular in the
Southwest. It will be a large table able to accommodate several single
diners, 3 or 4 couples, or a large group. I encourage our clientele
to be open to this idea. No reservations will be allowed at this table,
so if you walk in on a busy Saturday and there is room at the community table,
you could be seated immediately.
I want to thank you all for returning comments and concerns to me. It
has been very useful in helping me prioritize that which is most essential
to your experience. I will update you again next month and I will post
a sign up for those who want to help with the move at the first of November.
Until then, keep the feedback coming, join
the email list at www.adamsmountain.com and
most of all, thank you for choosing Adam's Mountain Café.

Dear Friends and Patrons of Adam’s Mountain Café,
It is time for me to officially dispel the rumor and announce that we are
indeed moving the café to another location in Manitou Springs. It
is with both sadness and excitement that I reveal such a truth in that
just as you appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of this space, my staff
and I have also loved being in this location on Cañon Avenue for
the past 12 years. It seems ironic that a restaurant so consistent,
stable and grounded will again change location.
When I bought Adam’s in 2001, I anticipated being able to purchase
this building, or at least this space, by the end of our lease in 2006. Such
has not been the case. I worked at Adam’s as the night manager
throughout our first major relocation from Manitou Avenue and never imagined
we would need to move again but after attempting to negotiate with the building
owner for several years, it is clear that such a plan is impossible and therefore
I have been looking for a new space for Adam’s for the past two years. The
Café demands a location with character, history, better facilities
(such as air conditioning!) and the opportunity to purchase. That location
is the Historic Spa Building here in Manitou Springs.
Abandoned, neglected and mysterious, the Spa Building has loomed over downtown
Manitou Springs for what is almost a decade. I was approached over
a year ago about the prospect of moving the café to that location
and I was hesitant. There are complications with moving there and concerns
on my part that the intimacy will be lost in the extensive square footage,
but I think that ultimately, this will be a great move for the restaurant
and the intimacy will continue to be cultivated in the relationships we foster
with our patrons. There will be creek side dining, more tables, a bigger,
more efficient kitchen, larger private dining and a central location in town. There
will be central air. How many of you have perspired throughout a meal
at Adam’s? It has a different charm and is very open. We
will respect the waters upon which the building sits and embrace the space
there as we have here. We will be true to the menu and the attention
to detail you all have come to expect and Rockey’s art is absolutely
coming with us too. We want to expand some of our current services
such as our To Go Food system, more wines and beers, a bigger espresso machine
for those just wanting a quick espresso drink “to go” and possibly opening
earlier in the mornings.
Let me conclude by saying that the Adam’s staff and I are absolutely
grateful for your patronage. We are here to serve you and totally cognizant
of the fact that without our loyal and consistent customers, there is no
Adam’s Mountain Café. We will truly honor that which you
find valuable and important by remaining true to our philosophy of providing
the best service, the best food, using beneficial ingredients, and nurturing
a positive and inviting atmosphere in which to enjoy a meal. Feel free
to write me with your comments or concerns: farley@adamsmoutain.com.
Sincerely,
Farley
